Hello everybody!
I am a music education major with an emphasis in voice. I have been singing for most of my life. I have directed various choirs, led worship, and have sung in many different venues. I also love playing the piano and writing songs. Although I like many styles of music, I find myself singing Pop, R&B, and Jazz.
At San Jose State University, I am learning how to sing classical music, and have found it very challenging and interesting since you have to sing in German, French, Italian, and English. But I'm really glad to be exposed to other languages of the world. It's pretty amazing!
As music majors, we often get comments like, "Music major! That's easy!" Little do they know that we spend many hours for just one unit courses. It requires a lot of practice, studying, writing, listening to music and writing down the notes and rhythms correctly, and we have to attend many recitals and concerts, as well as perform in them. It's not easy! But, I love it! :o)
Although I do not consider myself a "speaker," I have taken speech in the past, and as a singer, I have had to address many different types of audiences over the years. Now I am currently taking COMM 41 to fulfill my G.E. requirement for critical thinking.
I look forward to getting to know all of you in our discussions.
Bye for now!
Babbie
Hi Babbie!(you have a very interesting name by the way!) Oh dang. you have to sing in alot of different languages? That must be very hard for you! I agree that a majoring in music isn't very easy since you have to write alot of music notes.
ReplyDeleteThanks! ;o) Well, my sister used to call me Barbie. In fact, she still does! I get so embarrassed because I look nothing like a Barbie!! Well, back then they were almost all white and blonde. Now they have multicultural Barbies. Thanks Goodness! Anyway, so I named myself Babbie. It's just a nickname. My real name is Barbara. Nice to meet you. Look forward to getting to know you and everyone else this summer. I like the blogging idea. I think it's pretty cool! See ya on the blog! ;o)
ReplyDeleteHey Babbie!
ReplyDeleteI have to say, I give you a lot of credit for learning to sing in different languages, it's not easy but your a tropper for keeping at it and as long as you are dedicated and focused and have the drive, you'll be successful.
Like you mentioned in your blog, I know what you mean by people take music majors for granted and don't realize no major is easy. Music whether it comes to singing or playing- takes a lot of hard work and practice.
My friend is a music minor and was telling me how many times they have to practice for concerts and the course itself.
Go Music Majors!
many smiles,
little miss daisy
Sorry I meant trooper, not tropper.

That's amazing that you are a Music major! You are very lucky that you get to learn all those different langauges! Nice to meet you :)
ReplyDeleteMusic major sounds like a lot of work to me! Especially having to go to all those shows and extra things during the week/weekend. It's so hard to make the time! I'm glad you're doing something you love though; I bet it makes it all that much more worth it. :)
